Project Members, Partner & Funding

The project members are responsible for different and changing activities within the scope of the different projects and the execution is aligned to agile workflows, which makes it possible to respond fast and flexibly to developments and changing needs. This is of central importance for research work and academic teaching, as new insights are gained through the evaluation of developed prototypes which are then incorporated into further development to improve the applications. The project initiators act as mentors and support the projects through their scientific expertise and years of experience in the field of information systems and urban planning. In addition, cooperation with various non-university organizations and companies is established to enable user-oriented and data-driven development of innovative solutions for existing and future challenges and to enhance knowledge transfer.

Project Members

M. Sc. Marten Borchers

Project Manager
Marten Borchers is managing and coordinating the projects and working at the University of Hamburg since September 2021 as a research associate in the research group Information Systems, esp. Socio-Technical Systems Design (WISTS). He is developing and testing the prototypes and machine learning models to examine the possibilities of how to support participatory urban planning with IT artifacts.
Prof. Dr. Eva Bittner

Initiator
Eva Bittner initiated the projects and is a professor and leader of the research group Information Systems, esp. Socio-Technical Systems Design (WISTS), at the Department of Informatics at the University of Hamburg. Her research interests include Collaboration Engineering, Human-Machine Collaboration, Knowledge Work and Knowledge Management, IT Innovation Management, and Co-Creation/Social Innovation. In particular, she is concerned with the design of collaboration processes and practices for knowledge-intensive work using the capabilities of modern ICT.

Prof. Dr. Jörg Noennig

Co-Initiator
Jörg Noennig co-initiated the projects and is a Professor for Digital City Science at the HafenCity Universität (HCU) in Hamburg and also directs the WISSENSARCHITEKTUR Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture at TU Dresden. He is supporting the project in the area of urban planning where he conducted countless projects published several books and more than a hundred scientific articles and essays, and was awarded the Grand Prix of the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE).
B. Sc. Simon Jordan

Research assistant
Simon Jordan Simon Jordan Simon Jordan is studying Information Systems at the University of Hamburg and has worked on topics such as Business Intelligence, Data Science, and Smart City in his professional and university career. He contributes this knowledge to the seminar D2S2C, where he supports teaching as a research assistant since April 2022.

Funding and Research Institutions

The University of Hamburg (UHH for short) is the largest and most diverse research institution in northern Germany and with over 40,000 students, is also one of the ten largest universities in Germany. Its research profile includes excellent basic research as well as application-oriented research and transfer projects. Research is characterized by various research foci and potential areas and is very strong in third-party funding, both in individual research and cooperative research.
The ahoi.digital is the alliance of the Hamburg universities for computer science and connects the Hamburg University of Technology (TUUH), the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), the HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU), the University of Hamburg (UHH) and the Ministry of Science, Research and Equality. The ahoi.digital also includes the Hamburg Graduate School for Data-Driven Participatory Smart Cities and the sharing.city.college, respectively, which is committed to promoting young scientists and by which this project is funded and supported.
The HafenCity Universität Hamburg - University of Architecture and Metropolitan Development (HCU) is a university thematically focused on the built environment. The HCU unites all aspects of building in design and drafting, engineering and natural sciences, as well as humanities and social sciences. One of the university's outstanding qualities is that all disciplines are considered in an integrated manner in research and teaching. Reference to application, technical knowledge, multi-perspective reflections, and design creativity are the characteristics of education at HCU.

The HSV/Future Dock is the innovation unit of the Hamburger Sport-Verein and develops solutions and innovative ideas around the world of sports in cooperation with first-class partners. This includes the areas of Entertainment and Data & Tech, where data-oriented solutions are explored and evaluated to enhance the user experience at events and support the further development of the Smart Stadium.
The Agency for Geoinformation and Surveying (Landesbetrieb Geoinformation und Vermessung, LGV) is the forward-looking and innovative service provider in the field of collection, maintenance, and provision of (geo)data. As part of the Hamburg Authority for Urban Development and Housing, the LGV has been operating independently since 2003. Approximately 370 employees in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg take care of the urban requirements of citizens, administrations, and businesses. Its portfolio of services includes IT-based urban (geo)applications (e.g., 3D representations, data analyses), surveying-related tasks, and real estate appraisals. The LGV supports the Senate in implementing its "Digital City" strategy.
